Alburikent residents achieve meeting with Melikov

Sergey Melikov, the acting head of Dagestan, has held a meeting with residents of the Makhachkala dwelling settlement of Alburikent, who demand to return historical lands to Kumyks. Melikov promised to help in a number of their demands.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2019, Kumyk activists, dissatisfied with the registration of land plots in the DOSAAF residential district on the outskirts of Makhachkala, demanded the return of historical lands to residents of the Kumyk villages of Alburikent, Kyakhulai, and Tarki.

The meeting of the initiative group of Alburikent residents Mr Melikov took place on Sunday, March 28.

"The acting head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, had heard our demands and made an appointment. Out of eight demands sent earlier to him, he promised to satisfy two. On the remaining points, he advised us to legally prepare and send our demands to other representative bodies," Makhmud Ibadullaev, one of the participants in the meeting, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We treat positively the very fact that Sergey Melikov met and listened to us. Earlier, bosses refused even to meet us," Salimgerei Salimgereev, another activist, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, Sergey Melikov promised to give instructions to the city administration to fulfil one of Kumyks' demands – to build social facilities in Alburikent.

"We also asked to stop the construction on the slope of Tarki-Tau Mountain, because of which the forest is being cut down. We found his support in this issue," said the activist.
