Armenia's MPH predicts shortage of beds for coronavirus patients

Free beds in Armenian hospitals will be exhausted in a week, should the current level of coronavirus spread persists, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health (MPH) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Armenia is under the third wave of coronavirus – the number of active patients has been steadily growing since February 12. The reason for the third coronavirus wave in Armenia was the weakening of quarantine and non-compliance with the anti-epidemic measures; a mass vaccination is needed, epidemiologists insist.

Queues for hospitalization of coronavirus patients may arise in Armenia, if the situation with the incidence does not change, Gayane Saakyan, Deputy Director of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the MPH, stated on March 29. "Currently, the epidemiological situation in Armenia is very grave. Our hospital system is quite loaded; the number of beds is practically exhausted. We have an increase in the incidence of almost 90%. In the next week, we expect over 7000 new cases," she said at the press conference hold on March 29. As a result, the bed capacity will be completely exhausted, and hospitalization queues will reappear, she has added.
