Tbilisi: police detain five protesters

Today, in Tbilisi, activists of the "Movement for Georgia" have held a rally near the building of the "Georgian Dream" Party, demanding to cancel the results of the parliamentary elections. After clashes with law enforcers, five protesters were taken to the police.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the political crisis in Georgia emerged after the October 2020 elections, the outcomes of which were not recognized by the opposition. The situation escalated after the detention of Nika Meliya, the chairman of the oppositional "United National Movement" (UNM), whose supporters held another protest action in Rustavi last night.

In autumn 2020, parliamentary elections were held in Georgia, as a result of which the "Georgian Dream" received 90 mandates out of 150. The opposition stated that the results were falsified and refused to participate in the work of the parliament.

After activists tried to attach stickers with the image of Bera Ivanishvili on the walls of the "Georgian Dream" building, policemen cordoned the office off. A clash broke out of activists with law enforcers, as a result of which five protesters were detained, the "Rustavi-2" TV Company has informed.
