Cancellation of martial law is preparation for Pashinyan's resignation

After the abolition of the martial law regime, the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan is the only obstacle to early parliamentary elections in Armenia. The Premier will do this because he has insured himself with an agreement with the opposition, political analysts believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from September 27 to November 9, 2020, there were hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh; and in this connection the martial law was introduced in Armenia. Only on March 24, the Armenian MPs decided, by a majority vote, to abolish the martial law.

The Premier's resignation is also required in order to hold early elections, but the authorities keep the situation under control thanks to agreements with the opposition, Akop Badalyan, a political observer, believes.

Pashinyan has used the martial law to strengthen his position, said Armen Vardanyan, a political analyst.

The martial law was a legislative obstacle to early elections, Vardan Aivazyan, a lawyer, has confirmed. He believes that the martial law was lifted in Pashinyan's interests.
