Opposition decides to unblock avenue in centre of Yerevan

In Yerevan, the movement “To Save the Motherland” will unblock Bagramyan Avenue to avoid the inconvenience for residents of the Armenian capital. However, they do not intend to stop the street fighting, activists of the movement announce. The tents, which were located on Bagramyan Avenue, will be set up at the entrance to the parliament building, a member of the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun” reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from November 2020, in Yerevan, the opposition has been holding rallies with the demand of the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation. The opposition considers Nikol Pashinyan responsible for the transfer of the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan. On February 25, the protestors set up a tent camp in front of the parliament and blocked Bagramyan Avenue. Since March 9, the opposition has been blocking the main entrances and exits of the parliament building.

“Through various protests, actions of civil disobedience, rallies, and other legal and political means, the movement ‘To Save the Motherland’ is fighting the authorities, which have brought our country to disaster. The regime, albeit slowly, is succumbing to mass pressure from the public,” the activists claim in their statement.

However, the political struggle creates inconvenience for citizens. “We declare the tent camp, located in Demirchyan Street, near the economic entrance to the Parliament of Armenia, the headquarters of the movement and unblock Bagramyan Avenue,” the oppositionists noted.

Demirchyan Street will remain blocked, and the number of opposition tents will not be reduced, reports Gor Sargsyan, a member of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" Youth Wing.
