Number of convicts for Shakarashvili's murder reaches 16

A court in Georgia found five more persons guilty within the murder case of the 19-year-old football player Giorgi Shakarashvili; one of them was sentenced to nine years in prison, four others – to five years in prison each, the Prosecutor's Office has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November 2020, six minors were convicted within the case of Shakarashvili's murder. On March 9, 2021, the court found five other defendants guilty of premeditated murder with aggravated circumstances; three of them received 16 years in prison each, and two minors were sentenced to 10.5 years in prison each.

Giorgi Shakarashvili, a 19-year-old graduate of the academy of the Tbilisi "Saburtalo" Football Club (FC), was killed on June 18. Investigators believe that Shakarashvili was severely beaten and kicked with a stick, stones and fists, and then thrown into the Aragvi River, where he drowned.

On March 19, 2021, the Tbilisi City Court found five more persons guilty of the murder of the footballer Giorgi Shakarashvili, says the statement of the Georgian Prosecutor's Office sent to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Four of them were sentenced to five years in prison each; and one – to nine years in prison, the Office has informed.

This verdict was the last decision of the first-instance court on the above murder case, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports.
