Volgograd townspeople have to save on foodstuffs due to price growth

Now, a trip to the store is much more expensive; people have to either reduce the number of purchased foodstuffs, or choose cheaper items to the detriment of their quality, the Volgograd residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" assert.

Alexei Ulyanov, a father of many children, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that this year, food costs have increased by about 60 percent. "Everything has risen in price, from bread to household chemicals. We didn't refuse anything, but we reduced the amounts, since our salaries show no increase," the man ha added.

Vyacheslav Selikhov, 53, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the government's declared price fixing for sugar and sunflower oil was of no help, since prices for all other foodstuffs are rising. “In 2020, we spent some 9-11 thousand roubles a month for us two, now – 13-15 thousand. Prices for vegetables, fruits, chocolate, meat, fish and eggs have gone up," he said.

"The government has fixed prices for sugar and sunflower oil, but it turns out that it was just a marketing ploy – a go-ahead signal was given to raise sugar prices from 43 to 46 roubles (per kilo), and also raise prices for sunflower oil, which can be bought today at 77 roubles, and not at 110, which the government allows," said Nina Matveeva, a 54-year-old working pensioner.
