Azerbaijani citizens in Dagestani camp lose hope of returning home

Shakir Nazarov, an Azerbaijani citizen, needs medical treatment at home, but for two weeks he stays at the Dagestani camp "Ogonyok" (Flicker), awaiting to cross the border. The number of residents of the temporary accommodation centre (TAC) is constantly changing, as many are losing hope of returning home in the near future, Mr Nazarov himself has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that those wishing to return to Azerbaijan were accommodated in the "Ogonyok" children's camp in the Kaitag District, after the camp near the Dagestani village of Kullar was disbanded with the onset of cold weather.

Shakir Nazarov told the "Caucasian Knot" that he had been in the Dagestani camp for 14 days. According to his story, he suffers from a number of serious chronic diseases that need treatment.

"I am very sick. My blood tension [rises] up to two hundred points. Here, doctors can't [help] me in any way. I'm at a loss what to do," the man said.

Shakir Nazarov needs treatment and supervision by narrow-profile medical professionals; for this purpose he plans to cross the Russian-Azerbaijani border. Since he is not a Russian citizen, he has no chance to receive the due medical care in the territory of Russia free of charge.

Three days ago, there were about 70 people in the camp; and on March 18, there were already about 20, since people leave every day after losing hope of getting to Azerbaijan in the near future across the land border, Mr Nazarov has added.

The last dispatch of Azerbaijani citizens to their homeland was made on January 28, 2021, after which the sending of those waiting across the border stopped, another camp resident, who has been at the TAC for more than a month, told the "Caucasian Knot" on condition of anonymity.
