Exhibition on 100th birthday of Academician Sakharov opened in Vladikavkaz
Residents of Vladikavkaz will be able to visit the travelling exhibition "Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov – an epoch man" until April 14. The first visitors have already seen it.
The exhibition shows documents from Sakharov Archive, the Museum and Library of the Sakharov Centre, the Museum of Nuclear Weapons of the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – the All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics.
It tells not only about Sakharov, but also about the Soviet Union, said Oksana Khugaeva, an employee of the National Scientific Library.
Academician Andrei Sakharov is known not only as the creator of the hydrogen bomb, but also as a human rights activist, dissident, and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. He was one of the leaders of the human rights movement in the USSR – he opposed the rehabilitation of Stalin, condemned the invasion of Soviet troops into Afghanistan. In 1989, he drew up a draft new Constitution of the Soviet Union, based on the principles of protecting person's rights.
