Decision on Onik Gasparyan's resignation enters into force

The President of Armenia did not dispute the Prime Minister's decision to dismiss Onik Gasparyan from the post of the chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces, and it comes into force automatically, reports Alen Simonyan, the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament. Vazgen Manukyan, an opposition candidate for the post of the prime minister, suggests that the Armenian army will not obey the decision to dismiss Onik Gasparyan. However, the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces denied the information that Onik Gasparyan allegedly intended to bring the army to the streets.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Onik Gasparyan's term as the chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces expires today, since President Armen Sarkisyan has not sent the draft decree on the resignation of Onik Gasparyan to the Constitutional Court. Earlier, at a rally in Yerevan, war veterans demanded from the President of Armenia to challenge in court the Prime Minister's proposal to dismiss Onik Gasparyan. The advocates and activists who have gathered today in front of the residence of the President of Armenia insisted on the same.

On February 25, the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces called on Nikol Pashinyan to resign. The Prime Minister considered the above call an attempt of a coup d'etat and drew up a decree on the dismissal of the chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces. However, Armen Sarkisyan twice refused to sign the document.

Alen Simonyan, the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament, announced that Onik Gasparyan, the chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces, who came into conflict with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, is considered dismissed.

Vazgen Manukyan, the opposition candidate for the post of the prime minister, believes that in case if the Prime Minister's decree on the resignation of the chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces enters into force, the army will not obey him, the "News-Armenia" reports.

According to the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces, the information that Onik Gasparyan allegedly intends to bring the army to the streets is a lie and manipulation, the "Sputnik-Armenia" reports.

The opposition of Armenia is holding a new rally in Bagramyan Avenue with the demand of the Nikol Pashinyan's resignation, the "News.Am" reports.
