Action against children's violence was over 300 people strong in Tbilisi

Activists of the women's rights movement in Tbilisi demanded to punish those responsible for the death of a teenager in Kobuleti. Law enforcers and social workers were idling, while the schoolgirl did not know how to protect herself, they claim.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February, the court arrested her grandfather and a resident of Kobuleti within the case of the girl's death. Activists of the "Movement of Georgian Women" have demanded to punish the supervisory bodies, which failed to timely react to the allegation of violence against the girl.

The girl died on February 10. She confessed to her family that in 2020, against her will, she entered into an intimate relationship with a 23-year-old boy, after which he tried to rape her again. The father-in-law, having learned about the incident, beat the girl up and threatened to kill her. The social worker knew about the girl's condition, but she received no psychologist's help.

The reasons for the girl's death were the problems of sex education and the lack of policemen's professionalism, the protesters have suggested.

"In rural areas, the population is more secretive; they don't want to talk about their problems. The sex education issues seem to them ashamed and unworthy of discussion," said Lyudmila, a teacher.

The girl's death was the result of "legal nihilism at all levels," Gogi, a protester, has suggested. "This is a manifestation of a political crisis," he said.

The main idea of the rally was to inform women that they have the right to defence, said Sofiko Shaburishvili, an activist of the NGO "Women for Change". They "lack knowledge of family relations; many families lack sex education," the activist has stated.
