Passers-by pay attention to action in support of arrested Derbent residents

In Makhachkala, relatives of three residents of Derbent, arrested in a case on terrorism, held a series of pickets with the demand to punish law enforcers for the use of torture. Passers-by expressed their support to the protesters.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Makhachkala, female relatives of Derbent residents Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mirzaali Mirzaliev regularly hold pickets in support of them.

According to the investigators' version, Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mirzaali Mirzaliev organized an armed grouping and were going to settle in the forest to "make attempts on lives of law enforcers and render armed resistance." The detainees' relatives complained that before the detention, the young people had been kidnapped and forced to sign confessions by torture and threats.

Today, at about 11:00 a.m. Moscow time, a mother of Islam Barzukaev, an aunt of Gasan Kurbanov, and a mother and a grandmother of Mirzaali Mirzaliev went to pickets near the buildings of the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the FSB Department, and the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). The women stood with different posters in their hands and regularly replaced each other.

The picket took place in a busy place, and many passers-by paid attention to the posters. Several people expressed their support for the defendants' mothers.

"We want as many people as possible to know about the torture of our sons," one of the protesters explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The female activists told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on March 4, they held a similar series of pickets in Derbent.
