Fatwa on COVID vaccine postponed until halal lab test

The Russian vaccine contains no animal components; its use has already been approved in a number of Muslim countries, the developers of the "Sputnik V" vaccine have stated. However, believers have reasonable doubts about the safety of the vaccine; and some Muslims have come under the influence of conspiracy theories, clergymen and Islamic scholars have stated. The Fatwa on coronavirus vaccination issue will not appear until March – the Halal Certification Centre insists on studying the full composition of the vaccine at the laboratory.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russia's Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) is preparing a Fatwa on the halal nature of the "Sputnik V" vaccine.

In the Islamic world, vaccinations are allowed, but believers have questions about the safety of some individual vaccines, Leonid Syukiyainen, an Islamic scholar, believes.

Some Muslims share conspiracy theories about the emergence of coronavirus and the risks of vaccination against it, Akhmet Yarlykapov, a Caucasian expert, has admitted.

"Experts themselves were sceptical about the vaccine because it was developed too quickly," he has added.
