Police use batons to detain Navalny's supporters in Moscow

Russian law enforcers are detaining the participants of the unauthorized rally in Moscow in support in Alexei Navalny, acting harshly and using rubber batons. The force is applied to both men and women. Among the detained protesters is the spouse of the opposition leader Yulia Navalnaya, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, rallies in support of Alexei Navalny are being held in Russian regions. On the eve of the protest rallies, police started to detain activists in southern Russia.

On January 17, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who flew from Berlin to Moscow, was detained at the Sheremetyevo Airport, and on January 18, the court ruled to keep him in custody until February 15, 2021.

After Navalny's arrest, the FBK has released an investigation about Putin's palace near the city of Gelendjik, Krasnodar Territory, the largest private house in Russia, which is being built for money of state-owned companies.

In Moscow, policemen are detaining protesters on Pushkin Square. Law enforcers in bulletproof vests and helmets are acting harshly, using rubber batons to stop the protesters. After any shouts or slogans are heard, the police units, consisting of at least 4 people, pull the activist out of the crowd and forcefully take him to a paddy wagon. So, activists who demanded to release Navalny from the pre-trial detention center were detained. The force is applied to both men and women. Among the detained activitsts is the spouse of the oppositionist Yulia Navalnaya, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the scene.

As of 14:30 Moscow time, the entire Pushkin Square was full of people. Through loudspeakers, the police demanded from the activists to disperse. In response, the protesters shouted "Freedom to Navalny!", "Give back the Caucasian palace!", and so on.
