Conscripts' parents criticize Armenian MoD reaction to protests

The explanations of the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) about the need to send conscripts (regular soldiers) to Nagorno-Karabakh failed to convince soldiers' parents; they have announced new rallies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that despite the concluded peace agreement, conscripts from Armenia continue being sent to serve in Nagorno-Karabakh. Their parents fear that soldiers may become victims of sabotage or be captured; they also complain about the living conditions of service there.

On January 9, another protest action was held near the building of the military university. Its participants stated that sending soldiers to Nagorno-Karabakh is only possible against security guarantees.

An official from the MoD came to meet the protesters. According to one of the parents, they were told that sending their sons to Nagorno-Karabakh would give other conscripts a chance to return from there. The MoD's official wrote down activists' questions and assured that the MoD would answer them. Parents said they were not satisfied with the results of the meeting and would continue their protests, the "Armenpress" has reported.
