Armenian MP offers exchanging part of Shurnukh from Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan occupies a part of the territory of Armenia from the side of Nakhichevan; therefore Yerevan can claim the return of the parts of Shurnukh and Vorotan lost during the border delimitation, Edmon Marukyan, an MP and the leader of the "Enlightened Armenia" Party, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 24, 2020, Azerbaijani officials, according to the head of the Armenian village of Shurnukh, demarcated the border and demanded that a part of this village with 12 houses be transferred to Azerbaijan. On January 2, the headman of Shurnukh said that an Azerbaijani military post had been set up in the village, and residents of the eastern part of the village were ordered to move out by January 5.

Edmon Marukyan has suggested his own solution to the problem with the villages of Shurnukh and Vorotan in the Syunik Region. According to his version, the Azerbaijani party has been occupying for many years positions deep in the "internationally recognized territory of Armenia" in the area of the village of Sevakavan in the Ararat Region.

The MP Marukyan has offered to close the dispute about Shurnukh and Vorotan in exchange for the above territory. Moreover, according to his story, the territory in which the 12 houses are located in Shurnukh transferred to Azerbaijan is much smaller than the above part of the Ararat Region.
