Azerbaijani sappers find 27 phosphorus shells

At the positions of Karabakh militaries in the Agdam District, 528 ordnances, including 27 shells with white phosphorus, were found and neutralized, the Azerbaijani Demining Agency has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the parties to the Karabakh conflict had repeatedly accused each other of using phosphorus munitions. In particular, on October 30, 2020, authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh accused Azerbaijani militaries of using phosphorus munitions to set fire to forests.

In the Agdam District, experts of ANAMA, the Azerbaijani National Demining Agency, have found 528 ammunition pieces, including 27 smoke mortar shells with white phosphorus, the APA News Agency reported on December 5 with reference to the ANAMA's press service.

The found ammunition was neutralized, the report says.

Let us remind you that Alexander Perendjiev, a military analyst, noted earlier that the use of phosphorus munitions is prohibited in any form by the third additional protocol adopted in 1977 to the Geneva Convention for the Protection of War Victims. "Most often the so-called non-combatants, that is, civilians, suffer from it," Mr Perendjiev has stressed.
