Lawyers explain specifics of right to compensation in case of Russian peacemaker's death in Karabakh

Families of perished military servicemen receive practically same compensations, but families of those who perished in armed hostilities are entitled to additional payments, the "Mother's Right" Foundation has reported in its comment on the death of Russian peacemakers in Karabakh.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 18, a Russian officer perished during demining operations near Shusha. On December 24, another Russian peacemaker engaged in Nagorno-Karabakh was buried in Bashkiria; he died, according to sources, when military equipment fell into the gorge.

Veronika Marchenko, an activist of the "Mother's Right" Interregional Charitable Foundation, has explained that the first factor for defining the family rights of the deceased is the wording of his death as "in the performance of his military service duties."

If the military service of the peacemakers is defined as close to combat service, then the details of his received wounds do not matter, Evgeny Chernousov, a lawyer, believes. In his opinion, compensations to peacemakers can be also defined by international norms, but not in the case of Karabakh.
