350 Azerbaijanis stay in Dagestan after border closure

Six persons still stay at a children's camp in the Kaitag District, and in total, about 350 Azerbaijani citizens wait in Dagestan for their return to their homeland. A group of 250 Azerbaijanis managed to leave for home before the border closure.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the tent camp near the village of Kullar was dismantled with the onset of cold weather, and the Azerbaijani citizens were accommodated at the "Ogonyok" children's camp in the Kaitag District of Dagestan. As of December 6, in Dagestan, about 500 people waited for being sent home. On December 18, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia announced the closure of the land border until March 1, 2021.

Before the closure of the land border, about 250 Azerbaijani citizens, who stayed in a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) on the territory of the "Ogonyok" children's camp in the Kaitag District, were sent to their homeland, an official from the regional administration reported. "Everyone who stayed in the camp left home yet back on December 18. Employees of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of Azerbaijan and the Migration Service have also already left the territory of Dagestan. At present, six foreigners are accommodated in the camp who arrived after the next departure," the official from the regional administration told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

At present, about 350 citizens of Azerbaijan still stay in the territory of Dagestan: they intended to transit through the republic to their homeland, says Garun Davydov, the First Deputy Minister for National Policy of Dagestan.
