Six people detained at protest action in Batumi

The protesters who tried to enter the building of the Adjara Government were detained after a clash with law enforcers, during which one policeman suffered.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since November 8, supporters of the opposition have been holding an endless protest action, demanding repeated parliamentary elections and expressing dissatisfaction with the tough restrictions introduced because of coronavirus. On November 30, a clash with law enforcers occurred in Batumi; several activists received traumas.

On December 13, supporters of the United National Movement (UNM) tried to enter the government building, but law enforcers prevented them from doing it; and a conflict broke out between them, the Georgian Public Broadcaster has reported.

The protesters refused to follow policemen's demands to leave the territory, said Konstantin Ananiashvili, the head of the Adjara Police Department. According to his version, six protesters were detained, and one law enforcer received traumas.

Let us remind you that on December 11, the Georgian opposition announced a boycott of the parliament on the first day of its work. The opposition's boycott of the parliament will lead to an intensification of the political crisis in Georgia, Nika Chitadze, a political analyst, believes.
