France accepts Azerbaijan's claims on Nagorno-Karabakh's status

On November 26, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) handed a note of protest to the French Ambassador in connection with the French Senate's resolution on the need to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. France still does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as a republic, the MFA has assured.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 25, after the termination of hostilities, the French Senate adopted a resolution on the need to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh. After that, the Azerbaijani Parliament called to exclude France from the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe).

On November 26, Zachary Gross, the French Ambassador to Baku, was summoned to the Azerbaijani MFA, where he was handed a note of protest in connection with the adoption by the French Senate of the resolution "On the need to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic". A resolute protest was expressed to the Ambassador in connection with the contradiction of the Senate's resolution to the norms and principles of the international law, the UN Charter, and the Helsinki Final Act. The French Ambassador has noted that the position of official Baku will be brought to the attention of Paris, says the message posted on the website of the Azerbaijani MFA, which was translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The French MFA has responded with a statement, which said that "Paris does not recognize the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic." "On November 25, the Senate adopted a resolution calling for the recognition by the French authorities of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. During the debate prior to the vote, Jean-Baptiste Lemoine, Secretary of State at the MFA, recalled the position of the French Government on this issue. France does not recognize the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic," the TASS quoted the statement on November 26.
