Court finds six minors guilty of killing footballer Shakarashvili

The Mtskheta District Court has found six minors guilty of killing footballer Giorgi Shakarashvili. All of them have been convicted under several articles of the Criminal Code, with one common one – participation in group violence.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Giorgi Shakarashvili, a 19-year-old graduate of the academy of the Tbilisi "Saburtalo" Football Club (FC), was killed on June 18. Investigators believe that Shakarashvili was severely beaten and kicked with a stick, stones and fists, and then thrown into the Aragvi River, where he drowned. The police detained 17 people back on June 27. Of them, five are accused of the wilful murder, and other 12 – of organizing and participating in collective violence.

By the verdict, three minors have been convicted under the article of organizing and participating in group violence, one more – for participating in group violence, and two others – for participating in group violence and depriving a person of liberty by prior arrangement, says the message of the Georgian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of November 13, translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The convicts' imprisonment term will be defined on November 20.
