Rostov activists speak out against political repression

The tradition of repression is returning into Russian politics, activists of the oppositional movements of Rostov-on-Don have stated at a picket in memory of victims of political repressions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 30, Russia marks the Remembrance Day of Victims of Political Repression.

The picket was held on October 31 in the city Builders' Park. It gathered about twenty people, including activists of the Solidarity Movement, the People's Freedom Party, the Yabloko, as well as civil activists, the organizers of the action have reported.

In Russia, they continue persecuting activists for expressing their opinions that differ from the principles imposed on us by authorities, Elena Menshenina, the organizer of the action, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The ain of our picket is to remind people that for a long time our country had fed and strengthened its power precisely through repressing dissidents and otherwise-thinkers, and, unfortunately, now this practice returns. People's persecutions are increasing; political cases are constantly opened in many cities on all sorts of far-fetched reasons; therefore, the issue of political repressions and support for victims thereof is becoming very relevant in our country; it's a matter of reality," Ms Menshenina has stated.
