HRC "Memorial" recognizes Ingush activist Magomed Khamkhoev as political prisoner

Magomed Khamkhoev is unreasonably accused of attacking law enforcers at a rally in Magas, declared the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". The human rights defenders demanded to release the activist.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomed Khamkhoev has been in custody since April 5, 2019, among other defendants in a criminal case on the use of violence against law enforcers at the rally in Magas.

According to advocate Fatima Urusova, Magomed Khamkhoev is the first of the activists who was accused not only of attacking the law enforcers at the rally, but also of inciting to that. The defence has repeatedly pointed out the absence of evidence of the Magomed Khamkhoev's guilt and the groundlessness of his detention.

The HRC "Memorial" considers Magomed Khamkhoev a political prisoner, the HRC's press service reports today. "We believe that the criminal prosecution of Magomed Khamkhoev is connected exclusively with his participation in a peaceful protest against the actions of the Ingush authorities. We demand to immediately release him," the HRC "Memorial" declared in a statement posted on its official website.
