Police fine "Musavat" Party activist
On August 11, Aziz Mamiev, the deputy chairman of the youth organization of the opposition "Musavat" Party, was fined for violating the mask regime and then released from a police station. The activist considers the punishment as unlawful.
On August 11, Aziz Mamiev was detained in the city of Sabirabad, where he arrived to visit his parents.
"I got a job here at a commercial facility. On August 11, I was detained at the entrance to this facility and accused of wearing no mask. Meanwhile, the mandatory mask regime applies to premises only," Aziz Mamiev said.
According to the oppositionist, he was not released from the police station until local activists of the "Musavat" Party raised money and paid a fine of 100 manats (60 US dollars).
Khalid Agaliev, a lawyer from the Media Rights Institute, notes that there is a requirement to comply with the mask regime in closed premises, trade facilities, and other institutions, in public transport, as well as in the open air in crowded places.
