On August 3-9, at least 2 persons killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In the week on August 3-9, 2020, at least 2 persons were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Both killed persons were suspected members of the armed underground in Ingushetia.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On August 6, a counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was imposed in Nazran and in the village of Sagopshi in the Malgobek District of Ingushetia. According to the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), suspected militants were requested to surrender, but opened fire. During a shootout, two suspected members of the illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed and another was detained. Firearms and an improvised explosive device (IED) were found at the place of the shootout. Some sources reported that one of the killed suspects was identified as Muslim Yevloev, an Asian freestyle wrestling champion, while other sources claimed that Muslim Yevloev had fled, but the detainee was his relative. Some more sources denied the involvement of Muslim Yevloev in the CTO.

Detentions

On August 3, the FSB reported that in 12 regions of Russia, including Dagestan, Karachay-Cherkessia, the Rostov Region, and Chechnya, law enforcers stopped the activities of 42 people involved in the manufacture of ammunition. Searches were conducted at places of the suspects' residence, and as a result, 179 pieces of firearms, grenades, and about 15 kg of explosive substances were seized.

On August 5, sources reported about the detention of two local residents, suspected of killing Uvais Aliev, Senior Lieutenant of the National Guard of Russia.
