Azerbaijani activist accused of defamation

An official and employees of the rural house of culture in the village of Khol Garagashly in the Neftchala District demand to bring activist Vafi Nagi to criminal responsibility on a charge of defamation. The activist herself associates a lawsuit against her with her activities to "expose the facts of corruption."

The lawsuit against the activist was filed by Alibala Salimov, the head of the Municipal Council of the village of Khol Garagashly, Ilkham Guseinov, the art director of the house of culture, and Anar Abbasov, an employee of the house of culture, Vafi Nagi told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"In their statements of claim, plaintiffs refer to my posts on Facebook and complain that I allegedly damaged their business reputation and humiliated their dignity," the activist reported.

Vafi Nagi believes there are no grounds for criminal proceedings against her. "By resorting to filing a lawsuit, they want to intimidate me and to force me to keep silence. The campaign against me was launched after I had requested the head of the Municipal Council to report on the use of the municipal property and financial resources and raised questions concerning the non-transparency of the allocation of land plots," Vafi Nagi said.
