Abkhazia announces opening of humanitarian corridor on Georgian border
The authorities of Abkhazia have decided to open the border from July 13 to July 17, so that local residents could return home from Georgia. All the returnees have to undergo health control.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 26-31, the Abkhazian authorities temporarily opened the border, so that local residents could return home after medical treatment in Georgia; then, all those entering Abkhazia were placed into quarantine for two weeks. On June 22-24, a humanitarian corridor was opened again for the residents of Abkhazia to return home, while only employees of the Inguri HPP and officials of international organizations could enter Georgia along this corridor.
It was decided to open the "Ingur" checkpoint for five days to accept the residents of Abkhazia who stayed temporarily in Georgia, as it was reported on July 10 on the website of the State Security Service (SSS) of Abkhazia.
"All the citizens arriving from Georgia will have to undergo health monitoring," the report said.
Let us remind you that the authorities of Abkhazia completely closed the Abkhaz-Georgian border that goes along the Inguri River on March 14. Since March 28, Abkhazia is under the state of emergency because of the threat of coronavirus spread.
