Gyumri investigators: Russian contract soldier commits suicide
A Russian contract soldier of the 102nd military base in Gyumri was found dead with a suicide note. The Investigative Committee of Armenia investigates the case under the article on bringing to suicide.
According to investigators, in the evening on July 4, a 20-year-old Russian who was serving at the 102nd military base in Gyumri was found inside an apartment cold with no signs of life. "In the bedroom of the apartment, law enforcers found a suicide note written in Russian," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told today by Rima Yeganyan, the spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
A criminal case has been instituted on the death of the contract soldier under Part 1 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Armenia "Bringing to Suicide," Rima Yeganyan reported.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the death of contract soldier Gegam Khachatryan at a military post in one of the military units of Armenia on January 6. The case was also instituted under Article "Bringing to Suicide".
According to the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia, in 2019, the number of suicides in the armies of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh amounted to 7, compared to 11 in 2018, i.e. decreased by 36.4%.
During a discussion held on February 3 in Yerevan, participants noted the principles of the criminal environment and the atmosphere of impunity prevailing in the armed forces of Armenia.
