Rights defenders link radicalization of officials' children in Northern Caucasus with parents' influence

Children of officials and law enforcers are subject to radicalization due to examples of impunity in their parents' work, or permissiveness in education, human rights defenders assert. The radicalization of the "golden youth" is becoming a trend, a political analyst has noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 15, Ratmir Galaev, a Nazran native, wounded two policemen in Moscow. The shooter's father is a retired officer in Ingushetia, and his uncle had taken the post of the Minister of Property Relations. Galaev's father stated that his son had mental disorders.

The reason for the radicalization of officials' and law enforcers' children is the influence of their parents, said Oleg Orlov, a board member of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

"Having learned about what is happening among corrupt officials and law enforcers, who are torturing people, a protest against the system is formed in children. Such information hurts the psyche and turns children into cynical machines or scares them," Mr Orlov believes.

The radicalization of Ingush youth could have to do with the suppression of protest sentiments, in particular, the rally in March 2019, Oleg Orlov has suggested.

According to Alexei Malashenko, the head of scientific studies at the "Civilizations' Dialogue" Institute, the main reasons for the radicalization of young people from families of law enforcers and officials are the acute psychological and emotional stress, as well as the Islamic factor and the economic situation.

According to his story, in Ingushetia, the situation is aggravated by the nervous state of the population due to the suppression of protests and the persecution of participants of the rally against the change of borders with Chechnya.
