Caucasus hosts actions in honour of doctors instead of celebrations on Day of Russia

Today, instead of mass celebrations, the regions of Southern Russia have hosted a number of actions dedicated to doctors and volunteers who helped fight the coronavirus infection.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 12, 1990, the first Congress of People's Deputies of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) adopted the Declaration on the State Sovereignty of the RSFSR. On the same day in 1991, the presidential election was held in the RSFSR, and it was won by Boris Yeltsin. The day of June 12 was declared a holiday starting from June 11, 1992.

This year, the Day of Russia is celebrated amid the ban on public events imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In Makhachkala, given the difficult epidemiological situation in the region, activists distributed medical masks. In Kaspiysk, librarians and activists of the All-Russian Movement "Mother of Russia" held the action "Bake a cake and say thank you". Women handed over the cakes to medical officers of the local ambulance station, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.

In Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, the central avenue was decorated not only with posters with the symbols of the Day of Russia, but also with banners bearing words of gratitude addressed to doctors and volunteers who help fight the coronavirus pandemic, the RIA "Kabardino-Balkaria" reported.

Cherkessk, the capital of Karachay-Cherkessia, hosted a graffiti festival, which participants depicted doctors, scientists, volunteers, social workers, couriers, drivers, trade and housing and communal services workers who did not stop their activities during the period of self-isolation, the RIA "Karachay-Cherkessia" reported.
