Three residents of Dagestan suspected of spreading fakes about coronavirus

The reason for initiating criminal cases against three residents of Dagestan was the spread by them in the WhatsApp of information about spraying coronavirus from the air in Dagestan, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has informed.

According to investigators, in April 2020, the suspects spread, by using their mobile phones in the WhatsApp messenger information that state authorities had sprayed COVID-19 from helicopters in Buynaksk and the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, which led to the death of people and animals, the Investigating Department (ID) for Dagestan of the ICRF has stated.

The criminal cases have been opened against the three Dagestani residents under the article on the dissemination under the guise of reliable of knowingly false information about the circumstances that pose a threat to citizens' life and safety (Part 1, Article 207, of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), says the report posted on the ICRF's website.

The maximum sentence under Part 1 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for imprisonment of up to three years.
