Ingush activist Rezvan Ozdoev set free on day of his conviction

In the Stavropol Territory, the court found Rezvan Ozdoev, a participant of a rally in Magas, guilty of attacking a law enforcer. The defendant was sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony, but was set free, because he had spent a year in a SIZO (pre-trial prison).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Rezvan Ozdoev was fined in a case on participation in a rally held in Magas on March 27, 2019. In May 2019, the activist was arrested in a case on use of violence against a fighter of the National Guard of Russia. Rezvan Ozdoev pleaded not guilty.

The court sentenced Rezvan Ozdoev to a year and seven months of imprisonment in a penal colony, reported his advocate Kyazim Atabiev. According to the advocate, the court found the punishment already served, and his client was released right during the court hearing. The guilt of Rezvan Ozdoev had not been proven, the advocate added as quoted by the "MBH Media".

According to the court, Rezvan Ozdoev took part in the rally, being guided by the motive of political hostility. At the same time, the court dismissed the investigators' version that Rezvan Ozdoev fell under the influence of protest leaders. The activist was under arrest since May 14, 2019, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reported.
