Georgian parliament supports extension of state of emergency

Most members of the Georgian parliament approved a decision to extend the state of emergency until May 22. The opposition criticized the measure as ill-conceived.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Georgia imposed the state of emergency on March 21.

Roman Gotsiridze, the chairman of the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party faction, said that he and his colleagues did not support the decision and did not even participate in the voting. "No one in the government says how more than a million people locked in their homes will survive the situation for another month," Roman Gotsiridze explained.

"Unfortunately, we do not know what restrictions will be tightened or weakened and what kind of economic plan exists," said Elena Khoshtariya, one of the leaders of the "European Georgia" Party, on the air of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel.

According to the website of the Georgian parliament, Irma Inashvili from the Union of Patriots and Social Democrats proposed reducing fines for violation of the quarantine regime.

In Georgia, the number of the coronavirus infection cases has reached 411.

It should also be noted that today, farmers of the Marneuli District of Georgia blocked a road in protest against the strict quarantine regime. The farmers complain that they cannot sell agricultural products.
