Gagra residents complain about prolonged quarantine in a multi-apartment building

In Gagra, residents of a nine-storey building are isolated in their apartments after their neighbours had been diagnosed with the coronavirus infection. For the seventh day, the people are deprived of any opportunity to go to work, visit their summer cottages, and leave the building at all. No date for the quarantine end is announced, the tenants of the building note.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 7, Abkhazia registered the first case of the coronavirus infection in its territory. A patient, a resident of Gagra, came to Abkhazia from Moscow. The multi-apartment building where the hospitalized person lived was blocked by the militia.

For the seventh day, the residents of the multi-apartment building in Abazgaa Street in Gagra are not allowed to leave their apartments.

Oksana, a tenant of the building, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the nine-storey building is being cordoned off by militiamen all days around the clock. Any attempts to exit the entrance are stopped. "I didn't communicate with the family in which the coronavirus infection had been detected. We already maintained the regime of self-isolation, as soon as it had been announced. We went out only to a shop and a pharmacy. I need to go to work. I have children, and what will I feed them with?" the woman said. Oksana explained that she worked as a seller in a grocery. The woman notes that she got her salary on a daily basis and that she has no savings.

"They cannot explain to us how long we will be locked in the building. The state of emergency was announced until April 20, and, apparently, they offer us to stay in our apartments until that day," the tenant of the building suggested.
