Observers from Armenia point to election violations in NKR

At some polling stations in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), violations of the secrecy of voting were observed, cases of voting for another person were recorded, while chairs of election commissions failed to turn to the police in such cases, Armenian observers have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the total voter turnout in the presidential and parliamentary elections in the NKR made 72.6%, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has informed.

Violations at NKR elections are systematic, Alexei Petrosyan, the coordinator of the "Eyewitness" observation mission, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Main violations were related to non-observance of the secrecy of vote," he has stated.

Daniel Ionesyan, the programme coordinator at the NGO "Union of Informed Citizens", has also treated violations as systemic. "We fixed violations of the secrecy of vote; voters were photographing the ballots. These phenomena were everywhere ... Chairs of election commissions fail to contact the police in such cases, although this is their duty," he said.

Violations in the form of obstructing observers' actions, voting for another person and other minor violations were also recorded, Mr Ionesyan has added.
