Dagestani woman detained after returning from Syria

A resident of Kizlyar, who arrived from Syria on March 14 with her two daughters, was arrested on suspicion of links with militants. The girls suffer greatly from their separation from their mother; they received no psychological help, the father of the arrested woman has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Elmira, a 29-year-old resident of the city of Kizlyar, and her two daughters, six and four years old, arrived in Grozny by a flight from Istanbul on March 14. She occurred with her daughter in the "Al Khol" camp in Syria after the death of her husband.

Elmira was wanted under Part 2, Article 208, of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF)).

After their return to Russia, the woman was detained, a Dagestani law enforcement source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

At present, Elmira is kept in the temporary detention facility (known as IVS) of the Tarumovsky District, her father, Rasul Kenzhibulatov, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to his story, on March 16, the advocate sent a petition to the investigator asking to change the woman's freedom restriction measure, so that she could be with her children.

"The younger girl is in tears all the time; she can't calm down. She is very attached to her mother," the father has explained, adding that no psychological help is being rendered to small girls from social services. "Until today's evening, not a single psychologist, not a single children's doctor, nor any employee of any social service had came to the girls to examine their condition," the man has emphasized.
