Residents of Abkhazia support hunger-strikers' demands
With the support of activists from Abkhazian regions, the Sukhumi hunger-strikers, who demand to ratify the article on illegal enrichment of the UN Convention against Corruption, have collected 1800 signatures in support of the anti-corruption law.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 2, three activists went on a hunger strike demanding from the authorities to ratify the above Convention article; they insist that amendments to the law should enter into force before the presidential election scheduled for March 22, 2020.
On March 6, activists began collecting signatures for ratification of Article 20 of the UN Convention in the regions of Abkhazia, Djamsukh Adleiba, an activist, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to his story, there were no people wishing to join the hunger strike, but the local residents, who came to Freedom Square, supported the hunger-strikers.
"People come to us; we give them subscription lists; and they go to Ochamchira and Gal and collect signatures there," Mr Adleiba has added.
According to his story, during March 6, 1800 signatures were collected in support of the anti-corruption law. "We plan to collect all the needed signatures within a few days off," he said.
Earlier, activists stated that they intended to collect 10,000 signatures and pass them to Parliament.
