Journalists demand new investigation into Elmar Guseinov's murder

Participants of a rally in memory of Azerbaijani journalist Elmar Guseinov demanded from the authorities to find and punish the persons responsible for his death.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 2, 2005, Elmar Guseinov, the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Monitor", was killed on the threshold of his apartment. He repeatedly received threats, was prosecuted, and was kept in prison.

Today, an action in memory of journalist Elmar Guseinov has been held in Baku. Journalists, activists, and politicians gathered near his grave in the Yasamal cemetery.

"15 years have passed since the murder of Elmar, and the bloody crime has not yet been solved. We are here again, at the Elmar's grave, and we demand to identify and punish customers, organizers, and executors of that monstrous murder," stated blogger Mekhman Guseinov, the head of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS).

Journalists have called on the authorities to conduct a new investigation into the murder of Elmar Guseinov.

"The society does not recognize and does not accept the official version, and we demand to conduct a new, complete investigation, identify, and disclose names of the customers and executors of the murder," said Mekhman Aliev, the director of the agency "Turan".
