Vano Merabishvili released from prison

After his release today, the former Prime Minister of Georgia, who in 2016 was sentenced to imprisonment, promised to resume his political activities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April 2019, the court dismissed a motion for conditional early relief (CER) of Vano Merabishvili, who in 2016 was sentenced to six years and nine months of imprisonment. The defence treated the refusal in CER as politically motivated.

In 2016, Vano Merabishvili was sentenced to six years and nine months of imprisonment in a case on beating of MP Valery Gelashvili.

This morning, Vano Merabishvili has left the prison. After his release, he thanked his colleagues for their support and assured that he would resume "being actively engaged in political activities."

Meanwhile, according to him, Vano Merabishvili has not yet decided which party he will cooperate with.
