Court sentences Dagestani resident Shavri Gadjiev to eight years of imprisonment

Today, the Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow has pronounced a verdict in a case on financing terrorists. Shavri Gadjiev, a resident of Makhachkala, who is accused of transferring 10,000 roubles to terrorists, was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Shavri Gadjiev is charged under an article on financing an illegal armed formation (IAF) (Part 1 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigators' information, in September 2014, Shavri Gadjiev transferred 10,000 roubles from a bank in Moscow to a person who was a member of an illegal armed formation, a part of the "Islamic State" (IS, a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court).

Today, Judge Vera Belkina from the Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow has pronounced the verdict to Shavri Gadjiev. The defendant is sentenced to eight years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony and a year of restriction of freedom after serving the sentence, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports.

Advocates intend to challenge the verdict at the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation, the website "Kavkaz.Realii" reports.

Let us remind you that at a court hearing held on February 12, Shavri Gadjiev refused to plead guilty. He said that he would not be able to transfer money to a stranger because of his small earnings, debts, and also his dependent parents with disabilities.
