Opposition demands to cancel election results in Azerbaijan
In Baku, organizers of a protest rally released a rally resolution with the demand to cancel the voting results and schedule new parliamentary elections.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 16, in Baku, the police detained dozens of people who protested against falsification of the election results. According to activists, policemen used force during detentions. The detainees were released far beyond Baku.
Ilgar Mamedov, one of the organizers of the rally, the leader of the "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) Party, posted a resolution of the protest action on his Facebook page. According to the resolution, "the early parliamentary elections were not free and fair and therefore they failed to reflect the will of the people."
The organizers of the rally demanded to cancel the election results and ensure freedom of speech, expression and other fundamental rights, including the immediate release of political prisoners. They also called for reforming the Azerbaijan's Electoral Code on the basis of opposition proposals, recommendations of the Council of Europe (CE) and the OSCE ODIHR, urgently ensuring the full implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), and calling new elections, emphasizes the resolution as translated from the Azerbaijani language by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
