Native of Ingushetia convicted for preparing terror act at World Cup-2018

The court has sentenced Zalimkhan Bogatyryov to 14 years in prison, after having found him guilty of involvement in the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, and of preparing a terror act during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

On February 7, a sitting was held at the Southern District Military Court on the case of Zalimkhan Bogatyryov, a native of Ingushetia and a resident of North Ossetia. The case was examined in a special order, which requires no investigation of proofs in court, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported from the courtroom.

In the course of debates, the state prosecutor noted that the mitigating circumstance of the defendant's guilt is the fact that he had pled guilty, and voluntarily took part in investigative actions. However, due to the fact that Bogatyryov's crimes are classified as especially grave, the prosecutor Merzhoev asked 14 years in a maximum security colony for the defendant with subsequent freedom restriction for two years and a fine of 600,000 roubles.

The court found Bogatyryov guilty of all the charges imputed to him and sentenced him to 14 years in a maximum security colony, 1.6 years of freedom restriction and a fine of 400,000 roubles.
