On January 27-February 2, 2020, no one fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of January 27-February 2, 2020, no one fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On January 31, law enforces conducted a raid near the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala. Dozens of law enforcers were involved in the raid, and mobile checkpoints were arranged in three places, including on both sides of Omarov Street at an exit from the mosque territory and at entry to Gagarin Street and next to the "Smolyan" Restaurant. The law enforcers stopped cars of believers who drove away from the mosque after the Friday prayer. One of the visitors to the mosque said that the law enforcers used a far-fetched pretext in an attempt to detain him. Believers suggest that law enforcers write down personal data of visitors to the "Tangim" Mosque in order to put them on the police preventive registration list. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan claims that the police preventive registration in the category of "extremism" was cancelled back in 2017.

It should be noted that this is the fourth week during which no losses were registered both among militants and among law enforcers and civilians in the course of the conflict in Northern Caucasus.

The recent major incident to date occurred in Ingushetia on December 31. That evening, at the entrance to Magas, a checkpoint of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) was attacked. As a result, policeman Zelimkhan Kokorkhoev was killed, and three of his colleagues were injured. One of the attackers identified as Mikail Miziev was killed, while the second attacker, Akhmed Imagozhev, was wounded and taken to a hospital.
