Social network users criticize erection of posts on Chechen-Dagestani border

The opening by Chechnya of law enforcers' posts on the border with Dagestan less than a year after Ramzan Kadyrov offered to remove all the checkpoints in Northern Caucasus was treated by social network users as inconsistent. Local residents fear that the new posts will complicate the traffic among the republics. Chechen authorities have explained the measure by the need to control the border section with Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2018, the Chechen leader called to remove all the checkpoints on the roads connecting all the regions of Northern Caucasus. In his turn, Mikhail Skokov, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of North Ossetia, objected stating that the checkpoint "Chermen" should not only be preserved but reinforced.

The Shelkovskoy District of Chechnya, which borders on Dagestan, the buildings of two new stationary posts of Chechen Police were opened. This will improve the quality of policemen's work, the Chechen MIA has stated.

Some residents of Chechnya have expressed their bewilderment at the opening of new checkpoints.

In their turn, analysts note that incidents at the "Chermen" checkpoint maintain tensions of residents of Ingushetia with those of North Ossetia. According to their version, inspections conducted at the checkpoint hinder the development of interrelations of the republics and are accompanied by violations of the right to the freedom of travel.
