Human rights defenders criticize Chechen woman for lie about her daughter's murder

Contradictory statements voiced by a woman from Chechnya about an alleged murder of her daughter will certainly affect the reputation of the family, Ruslan Kutaev and Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in early November, a video was disseminated in social networks in which a mother reported about a murder of a teenage girl by her uncle for inappropriate behaviour. Later, in another video, the woman admitted that the disseminated information was a lie.

Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, has expressed his indignation about the video messages shot by the Chechen woman.

The Chechen society is conservative, and such a story made public discredits family members, emphasizes Ruslan Kutaev.

"Who will want to marry the girl whom the mother herself accused that she allegedly had an affair with someone? Well, the mother herself deserves severe punishment. How could she risk the fate of her children?" Ruslan Kutaev noted.

Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, Director of the Conflict Analysis and Prevention Centre, believes the whole story is terrible. Meanwhile, she sees no reason not to trust the refutation of the information.

According to Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, it turns out that the woman accused the clean-handed man of a crime, and such an accusation itself is on the verge of criminal liability.

In Chechnya, such a kind of publicity can certainly harm the family, Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya agrees.
