Nagorno-Karabakh organizes first carpet exhibition

The "Tigranakert" historical and cultural reserve hosted the first "Games of Dragons" carpet exhibition in Nagorno-Karabakh. The exhibition presented 130 carpets made by local craftsmen using traditional Armenian technologies.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that the stages of the process of carpet creation were shown at the exhibition, and visitors could also try to create carpets with their own hands. The exhibition also included a seminar on the history of Armenian carpets, at which specialists from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh delivered their speeches.

This is the first time when an exhibition of that kind is being held in Nagorno-Karabakh, reports Armine Airapetyan, the head of the State Service for the Protection of Historical Environment at the Armenian Ministry of Culture.

"The exhibition was called 'Vishapneri Khakh' (Games of Dragons), since a dragon is an important link in the composition of the Armenian carpet field and the Armenian folklore," Armine Airapetyan said.

The official also noted that the exhibition was visited not only by local spectators, but also by tourists.

According to Sevak Khachatryan, director of a handmade carpet manufacture, the carpets presented at the exhibition are handmade using a unique technology.

Sergey Shakhverdyan, the director of the Artsakh Tourism & Culture Development Agency, notes that the exhibition is designed to popularize the "cultural heritage."

Anait Loretsyan, the director of the "Tigranakert" historical and cultural reserve, has also added that the number of people visiting the museum is growing every year.
