Relatives of Chechen native extradited from Georgia fear for his fate

Georgian authorities have extradited Ramzan Akhyadov, a 40-year-old native of Chechnya, accused of terrorist activities, to Russia. His relatives express concern about his health and future fate.

Ramzan Akhyadov, who is accused of terrorist activities and links with the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier ISIL), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, got to Georgia from Turkey and was extradited to Russia, Teya Tsulukiani, a Georgia Vice-Premier, the Minister of Justice, has reported.

Akhyadov refuses to plead guilty, insisting the charges brought against him in Russia are "fictitious." According to his advocate, Akhyadov asked Georgian authorities not to extradite him to Russia, as he had not hopes for fair trial. There are no proofs of Akhyadov's guilt, the advocate has added.

Akhyadov's close relatives have expressed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent their concern about his health and future fate.

"He asked for asylum in Georgia, but he was extradited to Russia ... We seriously fear for his life and health. We all know well what they do with those detained on suspicion of links with militants or participation in Syrian war," said Magomed, an Akhyadov's close relative.
