Krasnodar: leaders of national communities react to shooting incident

The shootout near the marketplace in Krasnodar was the result of a "criminal showdown" rather than an interethnic conflict, a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has voiced out the law enforcers' position. Members of national communities have promised the Krasnodar authorities to intensify work with the youth.

At night on August 21, a conflict involving several dozen people broke out near the Vishnyakov marketplace in Krasnodar; and a local resident, a native of Dagestan, received a mortal gunshot wound. After the conflict, natives of Dagestan and Chechnya were detained; and a resident of the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya was put on the wanted list on suspicion of committing the murder.

A Chechen MIA source has confirmed today that a group of natives of Chechnya took part in the conflict. "The incident was a purely domestic one in nature, and was associated with criminal showdowns," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The Krasnodar Mayoralty has hosted a meeting of leaders of national communities, at which Magomed Nurudinov, a member of the Dagestani community, has expressed concern about the incident.

"Today, we are gathering young members of the Dagestani community, tomorrow – the elders thereof; and we'll work out solutions and take measures to prevent this situation from happening again," the "Kommersant" quotes him as saying today.

Communities should strengthen the educational work with young people, Muslim Magomadov, the chairman of the regional public organization "Bart Chechen-Ingush Cultural Centre" has confirmed at the meeting.
