Malkhaz Machalikashvili's nephew detained in Georgia

Moris Machalikashvili, a nephew of Malkhaz Machalikashvili, is suspected of assaulting policemen during the riots outside the parliament building in Tbilisi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that protests in Tbilisi began on June 20 after Sergey Gavrilov, a Russian MP, took the chair of the speaker of the Georgian parliament during the sitting of the parliamentary Orthodox assembly. This caused a protest of oppositional MPs; and law enforcers dispersed the protesters who rallied outside the parliament building.

Let us remind you that the 19-year-old Temirlan Machalikashvili was wounded during a special operation on December 26, 2017. Two weeks later, he died at hospital. Law enforcers stated Temirlan tried to throw a grenade at them; however, the young man's family asserts that he was shot dead while in bed. His relatives have been holding protests for more than a year demanding to punish those responsible for his assassination.

According to Sulkhan Borzikashvili, a resident of the Pankisi Gorge, Malkhaz Machalikashvili and his relatives intend to resume the picket in front of the parliament.

On June 20-21, 2019, during protests, Malkhaz Machalikashvili was in the square near the parliament among activists. During a police attack on the demonstrators, he was wounded in the head and taken to hospital.

  • Lawyers comment on scandal with equipment sale on behalf of "Akhmat" special unit

Lawyers have noted that it is practically impossible to hold the scammers accountable for the fact that they had sold stolen property, posing themselves as fighters of the "Akhmat" Chechen special unit.
